Running an extra-curricular activity

by Luciann Fleet, School Direct PE Associate Teacher

My experience at Dunraven this term has been fantastic, and I have learned something new every day. I have developed my behaviour management and teaching styles, accumulating a range of approaches to use within my lessons. The support and encouragement from all members of staff within the school, especially the PE department, has been invaluable towards an enjoyable training experience so far.

In the autumn term, I was delighted by the interest shown in a cheerleading club I proposed. I then had the opportunity to create a routine performed by members of the club. The club members then performed the routine in the Christmas dance show. Practising stunts, dance routines, jumps and tumbles is a main part of this club which also provides an excellent opportunity for students from all year groups to experience a new and exciting activity that they may not have had a chance to experience before. Leading this club has been a very rewarding experience for me. It has also provided a great opportunity for the students to display the talents and skills that they have developed so far.

I have found the process of my teacher training very rewarding and fulfilling. I hope to continue progressing and developing within the school and its community in the coming months.
